2024 NFB of Arizona State Convention

Join the National Federation of the Blind of Arizona as we celebrate our 78th  annual state convention in downtown Phoenix from August 22nd to 25th. This action-packed weekend will gather together hundreds of blind people from across the state and beyond. Attendees get the opportunity to learn about current activities and advocacy work across the country and in our local communities, network with blind people, explore the latest assistive technology, and help to set the agenda for the upcoming year. This family- friendly weekend will also include programs designed for children and youth. There is something for everyone!

Although our convention is open to all, our constitution states that only members of the National Federation of the Blind have the right to participate in decision making and setting organizational policy. Members in good standing our eligible to help determine our agenda for the upcoming year, vote on issues, adopt resolutions, and participate in elections. This years rookie roundup session will take place on; August 18th, 2024 at 3PM.

We look forward to connecting with people from all over the state of Arizona  and beyond in Phoenix. The Hyatt hotel is conveniently located near the light rail and other public transportation options and is just a few miles from Sky Harbor International Airport.

Accommodations

The National Federation of the Blind of Arizona is committed to ensuring a welcoming and accessible environment for all convention attendees. We prioritize the provision of resources and services that cater to the specific needs of our Conventioneers. Throughout convention weekend, it is our priority to ensure all attendees are given the opportunity through accomodations that they may participate on an equal basis.

Our typical accommodations that will already be in place include:

  • Braille agendas, restaurant menus and convention information
  • A dedicated quiet space throughout the weekend
  • Assistive Listening device (per request)
  • Marshals to assist with hotel navigation

Exhibit Hall

Exhibit Hall is Friday, August 23 from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM and is open to the public. Visit to learn more about the resources and products available that enhance the lives of the blind. We welcome vendors who offer resources and products that aid in promoting the independent lives of blind people. For a nominal fee of $100, vendors will have the opportunity to connect with hundreds of blind people.

Auction Items & Door Prizes

Have your positive energy and enthusiasm ready to bid on Auction items during the banquet. Door prizes will be given away during general session and banquet. The final door prize will be drawn during Sunday’s business meeting and breakfast. In order to win a door prize, you must be registered for the convention and present at the time your name is drawn. Youth track participants are also eligible to win.

Fundraising

The affiliate and its chapters and divisions will have the opportunity to raise funds during the convention. To be added to the list of participating affiliate chapters and divisions, please contact Rachel Kuntz, Affiliate Fundraising Chair at rachelrkuntz@gmail.com. We want to ensure the diversity of items being sold and to be sure to properly attribute your fundraising efforts so be sure to contact Rachel by August 10 to reserve your chapter or divisions space today.

 

NFB Travel Blanket

The affiliate will be making available for purchase a warm and cozy travel blanket emblazoned with the National Federation of the Blind logo. This black fleece blanket with white NFB logo converts into a convenient carrying case with handle when not in use in front of your favorite streaming service or while reading a terrific book. The Affiliate Fundraising Chair, Rachel reports that her furry companions (both cat and dog) have endorsed the travel blanket’s coziness for an afternoon siesta. Blankets are $20 each and can be purchased by a variety of cash or credit card payment methods. Already have lots of blankets. Never fear, this convenient travel blanket is self-contained in a smooth carrying case that can serve as a NFB pillow, back support, cushion, and has pockets in which you can carry things on the go.
