RE: Thanking the AZ State Library and Senator Jorge Luis Garcia for the preservation of NFBA Newsline
WHEREAS, Newsline is an electronic system for blind and other consumers use to access hundreds of newspapers, magazines with a touch-tone telephone twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona State Library provides telephone access to all users in Arizona of NEWSLINE who are unable to read the print version; and
WHEREAS, the need for the services from the Arizona Braille and Talking Book Library will be increasing as Arizona’s population becomes blind due to aging and other factors control; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona Braille and Talking Book Library made adjustments to in the current and upcoming fiscal year budgets; and
WHEREAS, GladysAnn Wells, director of the Arizona State Library Archives and Public Records, took action on her agencies budget that did not affect the current services offered to consumers of NEWSLINE and has preserved this valuable service and tool for the next fiscal year; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the National Federation of the Blind of Arizona in Convention assembled this 13th day of September, 2009, in the city of Tucson, Arizona, that this organization express our gratitude to the director of the Arizona State Talking Book Library Archives and Public Records and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this organization commend and thank the leadership and work of Arizona Senate Minority Leader of Jorge Luis Garcia for helping to preserve funding for NEWSLINE.
