RE: An Increase of Funding for Vocational Rehabilitation Services
WHEREAS, the State of Arizona historically has not appropriated sufficient state monies to meet the vocational rehabilitation needs of blind and other persons with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, last year, the State of Arizona was forced to turn back over $9 million to the Federal government due to the lack of sufficient state appropriation to match the Federal dollars; and
WHEREAS, The 2006 Arizona State Legislature and the Governor adopted a significant increase in dollars for vocational rehabilitation in SFY 2007 to allow a "draw-down" of over $10 million in Federal funds; and
WHEREAS, these additional monies will permit the Rehabilitation Services Administration of the Department of Economic Security to hire many more staff so that more applicants on the waiting list will be served; NOW, THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED by the National Federation of the Blind of Arizona, in convention assembled, this 16th day of September, 2006, in the City of Tucson, Arizona, that this organization highly commend the Arizona State Legislature for passing and Governor Janet Napolitano for signing into law the desperately needed additional funds for vocational rehabilitation purposes; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this organization commit to seeking passage of a like amount of funding to continue to meet the needs of vocational rehabilitation clients.
