RE: Arizona State University Technology Proposal

WHEREAS, the Arizona State University Center for Cognitive Ubiquitous Computing (CUBC) hopes to develop a specialized online navigation system so that blind Arizona college students can access online coursework more easily; and

WHEREAS, this project is based upon the erroneous conclusion that blind students cannot access standard course Web sites; and

WHEREAS, blind students with proper training in the use of screen access technology can access most course Web sites without difficulty; and

WHEREAS, funding has been requested from the Arizona Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) for this project; and

WHEREAS, RSA funding can and should be used to fund the purchase of existing technology and the provision of technology training: NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED by the National Federation of the Blind of Arizona in convention assembled this eleventh day of September, 2005, in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, that this organization urge RSA to fund improved technology training for students rather than the production of an alternative statewide system for the blind to access online coursework.
